What if you could reserve some storage (for example on Amazon S3 or on some provider of your choice), and I would do a regular backup of the complete forum to this place?!
I would also provide some scripts which can restore the whole forum from this backup at an arbitrary provider, plus instructions how to do it.
Then in case the forum here would be deleted by whatever unlucky reason, it could be restored from your storage place.
For the standard storage on Amazon S3 you pay 2.3 cent per GB per month.
The forum size is in the moment 1.3GB (this includes database backups since 2013, one DB backup is currently only 5MB).
The wiki is another 175MB.
So I guess one could keep the backup costs just under $1 per year.
If then some other persons like Sheldon and Gottfried would have access to that backup storage, the chances get even better for forum incident survival (and I would sleep much better ). Even if there would be a lack of technical skills, one could just use a devloper from Fiver for restoring the forum.
What do you say James?!
I can definitely do that! That's a great idea! I'll get going on getting this going!
Give me a week or two, to figure out the logistics!
EDIT: So I registered with AWS; it's free until I start adding things; Just let me know what's the next step. Should I add you as a user to the account? (Not too sure how to do this; never worked with anything in web development, lol).
Just tell me what to do and I'll do it, bo!
I can already access a cloud by using s3; the first 5gb is free for 12 months; then I imagine they price you per gb. I've dl'd the forum, but it's definitely suboptimal; the code would be much more efficient for cloud storage. I'm not worried about the pricing for 10-15 gbs; it's once we exceed that I might try to cut the fat; but 1-5 gbs I'm not worried.
Regards
EDIT2:
Also, you're very correct, Gottfried. We should definitely have a zoom call to discuss what we should do. Tomorrow doesn't work for me, we should agree on a day sometime next week; I'm free everyday except friday. I'll need at least 3-4 days notice though.
I've been talking to my friend, who knows more about this ISP domain hosting nonsense. He thinks it might be beneficial on my part to talk to a representative of AWS or another domain provider to at least flesh out how to transfer the forum from one domain to the next; and in the mean time have a mirror we maybe pin to the home page to direct users to the alternative domain.
If bo isn't opposed; I think it may be nice to have twin hosting system already built in. I don't mind paying whatever extra it is.

Henryk, sorry to hear that you are having health problems. I am also concerned about my long term health, although I can certainly help now. I am a full stack programmer/system administrator. I always am hosting one or two dozen web sites and always have excess capacity. I have a year experience with MediaWiki and my cPanel installation supports automatic installation of myBB. I can help by writing scripts to backup the website through the web. Let me know how I can help.

I think we really should have a meeting. I would say at least Sheldon, James, Gottfried and Daniel (and me) should participate.
Though I totally don't like negotiating an appointment in the public, it seems we have to start with exactly that.
Or we first negotiate a channel of (chat) communication and continue there with further details.
I could use Telegram, Whatsapp, Signal, Facebook, Gmeet, Skype, Slack.
On which channels could you join?

I've only zoom, skype. No facebook etc account, and won't take one. My wife has whatsapp & signal, but the next week she's not here, and I wouldn't like that as prolonged channel. Btw. what about "jitsy"? My brother introduced me to that, but I do not know many whereabouts...
Concerning communication time: I'm retired and can plan introductional/pre-organisatorical communication rather unrestricted.

Just starting the discussion up again. Are we looking at a group of members serving the same function, or being specialized? I would be happy to focus on system administration in some capacity.

I'm waiting for Bo to speak up again, I hope he's doing okay.
I've already set up a cloud storage for this forum; I haven't uploaded anything to it yet; but I've been regularly backing up the forum...

Hm, not everybody has answered yet about the channel of communication.
In the moment it looks for me we could agree on skype.
(I also have nothing against zoom, but the free version is limited to 40min meeting.
So for zoom we would need someone with a payed version.)
Can we all agree on skype?

yep not a problem for me! I'll install it.
Weird about the limited to 40 mins, I've definitely done hour long meeting with Sheldon.
