I have been playing around with different notations and I think I found a way to simulate your "partial box" notation in TeX. Here are some examples:
For hyper-logarithms:
\text{hy}n\text{log}_b(z) =
{}^n_b\begin{tabular}{|c}
z \\ \hline \end{tabular}
For hyper-roots:
\text{hy}n\text{rt}_a(z) =
{}^a_n\begin{tabular}{|c}
\hline \\ z \end{tabular}
Andrew Robbins
For hyper-logarithms:
\(
\text{hy}n\text{log}_b(z) =
{}^n_b\begin{tabular}{|c}
z \\ \hline \end{tabular}
\)
Source:\text{hy}n\text{log}_b(z) =
{}^n_b\begin{tabular}{|c}
z \\ \hline \end{tabular}
\)
\text{hy}n\text{log}_b(z) =
{}^n_b\begin{tabular}{|c}
z \\ \hline \end{tabular}
For hyper-roots:
\(
\text{hy}n\text{rt}_a(z) =
{}^a_n\begin{tabular}{|c}
\hline \\ z \end{tabular}
\)
Source:\text{hy}n\text{rt}_a(z) =
{}^a_n\begin{tabular}{|c}
\hline \\ z \end{tabular}
\)
\text{hy}n\text{rt}_a(z) =
{}^a_n\begin{tabular}{|c}
\hline \\ z \end{tabular}
