I see that the local maxima/minima still follow soft/smooth curves. I guess this might be better linearized by changing the additive constant in the factorial expression (I'd found \( (k-3)! \) by playing with this term). Perhaps even \( \Gamma(1+k - d) \) - with \( d \) better adapted values, maybe fractional...
