I returned to the simple idea ;

Fractional iterates of 

( 1 + X/p)^p

For large prime p.

Expanded at the real fixpoint.

This avoids the overshoot.

Notice this is a bit of a base Limit in a sense ;

( 1 + X/X ) ^ X = 2 ^X

For p close to X …
